12/9 1:53pm: Just when you think life is running smoothly, at that very moment you come to
that realization… prepare yourself; somethin’s coming! That something has arrived in my life as a chronically ill G4 Titanuim Apple
laptop. I’ve felt this was coming for months, but the timing was rather suspect. After a good month of counseling my dear friends Mark and Cori about the virtues
of making the switch from PC to Mac, their brand new G4 iBook arrived and I headed
over to welcome the new arrival and to offer some set-up expertise. I repeated to Mark all the reasons why Mac’s are superior, heading the list: I have never had a computer die on me. I’ve always just needed to upgrade.
I then drove home and started to reply to an email from my friend Donna and my
computer completely locked up. Mac’s running OSX don’t “lock up”! Bottom line is the “Motherboard” and or the “ Processor” are on their last legs
and it will cost more to fix than the computer is worth.
Last month the bulk of my saving was appropriated to my car woes; a seemingly
inflexible “flexplate”! This month the rest of my savings will head to a new iBook or Pwerbook. I think the iBook is a better fit. The work I do in digital audio requires a fairly high end unit. Thank God I’m actually making a living. In the old days these interruptions were catastrophic. Now they're just a pain in the ass! Discomfort is far more doable than catastrophe. 5 years with my little laptop. We we’re due to part ways…
